Preserving maximum plant and wildlife diversity is an active and adaptive process, requiring the maintenance of a wide variety of habitats. Management plans must continually be revisited to ensure that our goals are met.

Miles and miles of trails exist on Spring Island. Many were original roads from the plantation era and therefore are still drivable. Others, such as those bordering Spring Island Drive, were created specifically as walking trails. With the resurfacing of many of the roads with plantation mix and gravel, areas to ride horses have decreased, forcing many trails on Spring Island to be shared by all users.

The Trust and the Stewardship Committee continue to work hard to improve the trail system. You can pick up a copy of the latest trail map at the Nature Center or download one here.
