Preserving maximum plant and wildlife diversity is an active and adaptive process, requiring the maintenance of a wide variety of habitats. Management plans must continually be revisited to ensure that our goals are met.

Explore the deer herd of Spring Island…

Spring Island is touted by the State’s wildlife biologists as having one of the healthiest deer herds in the coastal Carolinas. The Trust’s deer management program is based on the Quality Deer Management model. On Spring Island the goal is to maintain a healthy population and create an enjoyable and exciting hunting experience.

Without a conscientious hunting program, the island’s deer eventually would change the appearance of our landscape. In addition to serving as a necessary management tool, hunting is a deep-rooted cultural part of Spring Island.

We encourage Spring Island members who are interested in deer hunting to get involved.
