There
are numerous ponds scattered over Spring Island. Those on the periphery of the
island were created when the marsh was impounded around 1970. These ponds
were created for waterfowl and are therefore very shallow. The majority of the other ponds were
constructed
in the early 1990s when the golf course was built. Although none of Spring
Island's ponds are "natural", they abound with nature.
Our ponds are diverse.
Some are salt water and some are fresh. Some are managed for trophy bass and
others are managed for breeding ducks. All of them contribute something to Spring
Island's sense of place.
